Modern plumbing related inventions that make our lives easier, until they stop working properly that is. Disposals are meant to take small quantities of food down the drain when rinsing off dishes. Don't be fooled by the misnomer "Garbage Disposal" as these things are neither designed to deal with garbage or large sizes or quantities of food. Most food disposer problems come from people abusing them by putting too much into them. This can also and often does lead to drain stoppages. If you have trouble with your disposal try pressing the reset button on your disposal before calling a plumber. It it typically a red button located on the underside of the appliance.
